Wood based activated carbon is produced by phosphoric acid and zinc chloride activation, with selected types of fuelwood, wood chips and wood blocks as raw materials. Most pores in wood based carbon are in the meso and macro pore region which is ideal for decolorization of liquids and water when compared with typical coal activated carbon and especially coconut based activated carbons.They exhibit different sorption and desorption properties and are often capable of adsorbing quite large molecules. Activated Carbon Precautions

Wood-Based Activated Carbon Production Process




Screening Process: The carbonized material is screened into specified particles. The purpose is to ensure uniform activation of the biomass carbon entering the activation furnace and to maintain optimal strength.
Activation Process: The crushed particles of carbon within a specified size range are sent to the activation furnace. Parameters such as steam quantity, air ratio, furnace rotation speed, and feed amount are adjusted and tested in the laboratory according to product technical specifications to determine and fix the optimal parameter values, enabling the continuous production of qualified and stable products.
Grinding Process: The finished activated carbon is sent to a Raymond mill and ground to the required particle size as specified by the customer.
Activation Material Crushing and Screening Process: The activated material is crushed and screened according to product technical specifications to the specified strength, producing the final product ready for shipment.
Finished Product Inspection: A uniform sample is taken from each batch (usually 1 ton) for accurate inspection of various technical indicators. Once the indicators are confirmed to meet the requirements, the product is packaged.
Packaging: The finished carbon that meets the indicators is packaged and stored according to classification.
Acid Washing: According to product technical requirements, some products need to undergo acid washing to remove some inorganic salts and reduce ash content, opening up micropores. A 5% hydrochloric acid solution can be used as the acid washing agent. The process involves heating to boil in a specialized acid washing pool, followed by draining the waste acid solution.
Water Washing: After acid washing, the material contains a significant amount of acid, which needs to be removed through water washing until the pH reaches 5-7.
Drying: The thoroughly washed activated material is dried using specialized drying equipment. Generally, drying continues until the moisture content reaches 10% (the moisture index is determined by product technical requirements or customer requirements). The material is then sent to a sealed storage tank for packaging.
